The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) programme is a £2.9bn programme of works, tasked with delivering various strategic outputs including journey time improvements and capacity increases between Manchester and York, as part of the overall Northern Powerhouse works. The West of Leeds alliance are responsible for designing and delivering significant elements of this work-bank.
One of our Mercury3 directors has worked within the alliance for a number of years, undertaking a range of functions in response to evolving project requirements. Initially, he fulfilled the role of project manager in the programme integration team, responsible for managing the outline business case production phase across the whole alliance. This role included stepping in as interim programme manager when required, and coaching and developing the junior members of the team.
Other roles undertaken within the alliance during this time:
Bid Manager – coordinating alliance member submissions for the new contract phase.
Design Package Manager – for the development of the electrification system between Manchester Victoria and Leeds, from outline business case maturity through to successful GRIP stage 3 option selection completion.
Supported the Programme Management Office in developing and implementing key processes.
Coordinated the implementation of CEEQUAL for infrastructure across the TRU programme (an environmental and sustainability pilot accreditation scheme).
