Trevor Marshall of Mercury3 Consult

Trevor Marshall


Trevor has had a varied and well recognised career in Network Rail within both the operations and projects functions. The latter, is where he has spent the last three years leading teams and delivering key outputs on the Transpennine Route Upgrade Programme, a vital part of realising the Northern Powerhouse vision. Previously, he has led design and construction teams on major rail infrastructure projects and spent time overseas developing processes, such as Health & Safety and Quality Management systems for confidential Clients. Trevor first set up as a freelance professional in 2012 and later formed Mercury3 Consult with partners Ian and Alan in 2017. Prior to this he had a long-standing career in Network Rail.

Trevor is a focused individual who brings teamwork and fun to wherever he is. He centres his life around his family, enjoys the outdoors and keeps active, occasionally competing in triathlons. Trevor is also working towards obtaining Chartered Project Professional status with the Association for Project Management.

Ian Watson of Mercury3 Consult

Ian Watson


Ian is a programme and project management professional with postgraduate leadership qualifications. Starting his career in the rail industry with Railtrack, Ian worked as a senior analyst and performance improvement specialist, identifying patterns in network performance and leading improvement projects, before establishing himself as a project manager leading significant resignalling projects.

In recent years he has specialised in project managing the introduction of new technologies into the UK rail network, more recently working with the Digital Railway Programme on the development of Traffic Management and ETCS in major projects, including East Coast and TRU. Ian has a great track record of building teams to suit project requirements and has a good understanding of how diversity and personality, as well as qualifications, are key to successful delivery.

Alan Beattie of Mercury3 Consult

Alan Beattie


Alan is a Chartered Engineer with an MBA, full membership of the Association for Project Management, and a history of successfully implementing improvements in a wide variety of industries including: rail, chemical, nuclear and FMCG. He is an enthusiastic, driven, professional manager who is motivated by the rewards of leading and developing teams to realise defined goals. Alan is proactive in seeking the opportunities to transfer his technical, business and leadership skills to add value and bring about change where needed.

Alan has managed and developed multiple complex, cross-industry stakeholder relationships to arrive at mutually beneficial outcomes. These outcomes include: project delivery enabling multi-million pound OPEX savings; delivery of the first UK Tram Train project and capture of learning for future deployments; development of high profile business cases; sponsorship of railway resignalling projects; personally piloting the introduction of Life Cycle Baselines and Near Term Planning in a Client organisation.

Outside work he enjoys family life, road cycling, running and completed his first triathlon in June 2019.
